Mt. Biking - "Grizzly Challenge"

Bear Valley has some of the best mountain biking trails in the Sierra Nevada and is home of the 3rd Annual "Grizzly Challenge" on August 15th & 16th, 2009. The main event is the "Grizzly Challenge" race which test riders along an 8 mile course with more than 1500 feet of climbing. Afterwards enjoy a tasty barbeque with prizes for top finishers. Then if you still have strength "Guided Tours" will available to explore more of teh trails. Then on Sunday the fun contintues with "Shuttle-O-Rama" rides which maximize the fun without having to push the peddles too hard. So it doesn't matter if you come for loot & fame, or simply to enjoy a weekend of great mountain biking, everybody is sure to have a great time at Bear Valley's Grizzly Challenge.

Saturday August 15th, 2009 delivers the "Grizzly Challenge" with steep climbs, pine forests trails and fast single track. It's a challenging course that will test your riding skill and fitness. Riders choose between 1 or 2 laps and prizes will be awarded to top finishers. Afterwards refuel with a tasty BBQ.

Grizzly Challenge

Racing Rules:

  1. All racers must attend the pre-race safety announcements.
  2. Racers must finish the race riding, pushing, or carrying their bike.
  3. No short cutting of course is allowed. If you cut the course you must go back and re-enter where you left the course.
  4. Racers may leave the course to make necessary repairs as long as they return to the course at the exact location where they left.
  5. Law Abiding: Federal, state and local laws and ordinances must be abided by at all times.
  6. NO headphones or earphones, MP3 players etc. are to be used anytime you are on the course.
  7. All racers, spectators and officials are required to have fun on race day!

Good Sportsmanship Conduct:
Foul riding, use of profane or abusive language and other unsportsmanlike behavior will be taken seriously. We are out here for FUN! Such behavior by any racer shall subject that racer's warning or immediate disqualification. This will be strictly applied when such behavior is directed at course officials, volunteers or spectators. The penalty imposed is at the discretion of the race director or co-director.

 

Cash Prizes:

This race is largely in the name of fun, but a generous sponsorship from the Bear Valley Mountain Resort has provided cash prizes to top male and female finishers in each division.

Guided Mountain Bike Tours top

The fun continues on Saturday afternoon with "Guided Rides" on the trails of Bear Valley. Groups will assemble at the registration area and be divided into riding abilities and goals. Free for all Grizzly Challenge riders!

Sunday Shuttle-0-Rama top

On Sunday (August 16) take advantage of shuttles to transport you and your bike above Lake Alpine to access the spectacular descent from Cape Horn to Lake Alpine and eventually back to Bear Valley.
